Sunrise in P-Town

For memorial day weekend I headed to Provincetown with a few friends hoping to find time to get some photography in. If you have ever been to P-town during memorial day weekend, you might have guessed that this was a big ask. There were many events to attend and dinner with friends to be had.

I was finally able to pick myself up before sunrise and made the long trek across the causeway toward the tip of Cape Cod. The forecast had called for clear skies, so I did not have a lot of hope for a spectacular sunrise. Luckily there were linear clouds far out on the horizon in the same direction that the sun was due to rise.

The journey across the jetty was a bit nerve racking despite having brought a headlamp with me. Thankfully about two-thirds of the way across the blue hour light really began to ram up and I could see much better as I walked.

At the same time, I realized how much closer we were to sunrise and the colors east were really starting to explode. I did take this shot facing Long Point Light from the causeway, but this was not my end goal nor the composition I was hoping to get.

I was also able to get this shot of Wood End Light before making it all the way across the causeway.

Shortly after I took off as as my plan had been to capture a shot of Wood End Light in the dunes when the sunrise’s color peaked. I was alternating between power walking and jogging as I made my way along the flatter parts of the beach toward the lighthouse. Let’s just say I barely made it and was able to get the following shots before the sun breached the horizon.

Overall I am happy with the images I got! Next time I think I need to leave just a bit sooner to allow myself more time to setup.

I hope you enjoy the images! Please let me know which are your favorite!
